How Innovative Can We Be?

Customized love beds have been a popular item for The Sims ever since Claw created the first one when The 8th Deadly Sim made its debut in 2002. Several additional artists have come up with their own versions of the love bed, a sport which we expect (and hope) to continue for a long time to come.

We do expect Maxis to include their PG-rated version of their love bed in The Sims 2 as well as several other titillating objects. Videos they have already released show the sims "playing" in the hot tub and they've said in interviews that there were be some new "play" objects.

So far, though, our sims ability to "play" has been limited to the love beds, and lately cuddle couches, hot tubs, and a rug. There is also one large vibrator available for the original game, but most erotic objects are just decorations that you can scatter around your sims' homes, leaving the rest to day-dreams.

More flexibility in programming animations and objects in a true 3D world might change this. Of course we can't show examples from The Sims 2 because there aren't any, but a search of the net turned up a couple of sites that give us a hint about what Sims artists might be able to do with a true 3D world.

If your tastes run toward kinky stuff, you can pick up a decorative St. Andrew's Cross from several Sims sites today, but do you know of any like this one that we found at 3D-SEXGAMES?

Every novelist knows that to make a story really fun and interesting, you have to develop the characters, and character development is what The Sims is all about.

Admittedly, the distressed damsel on St. Andrew's Cross is very nice-looking and moves in very interesting ways, but what you see is all there is. The characters in the 3D games that are currently available seem to have even less personality than a RealDoll.

But now, imagine that instead of this unnamed, unknown redhead, that's Bella Goth or Betty Newbie strapped down on that thing. (Or, if you prefer, Mortimer or Bob!) Suddenly the story becomes much more interesting!

Maxis will provide the canvas. Pre-release information about The Sims 2 promises that the characters will have even more complete personalities. At this point, we can only speculate about what the artists will paint on that canvas as they explore the possibilities of mature relationships among the sims.

Whatever it is they do, we're sure it will be good!
